Pimpri Chinchwad- the twin city is famous as Industrial Township. it is also recognized as Detroit of the East with the presence of several national and multinational automobile companies. Blessed with rich cultural heritage and history. Pimpri Chinchwad area is the birthplace of many freedom fighters and saints. Having a population of about 20.00 lakh, thecity is in the vicinity of educational hub of Maharashtra State i.e. Pune.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Science Centre has been set up by National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous society under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India with active support of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, which is one of the richest municipal corporations in India. The Centre, through its interactive science exhibitions and non-formal science education programmes is expected to cater to the people of the region.
The Government of India and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation equally shered the capital cast of Rs.850 lakhs. The Science Centre having a built-up area of approx 4000 sq. meters houses three exhibition halls, a temporary exhibition hall, an inflatable dome planetarium, science demo station area, activity corner, an air-conditioned auditorium,3D science show facility, a library cum conference hall, a small work shop for maintenance and development of exhibits and other public facilities surrounded by a large science park.
1] Automobiles-The automobile as we know it today, was not invented in a single day or by a single inventor but is the outcome of over 1,00,000 patents worldwide. The accidental invention of wheel and then evolution of the automobiles rolled the world on the path of development. Now automobiles are not just passenger carriers having own engine or motor but involve manyAspects of science, technology and engineering. Its weight, size, shape, fuel, propulsion technology, safety, cost, benefits and environment friendly features etc. are all important aspects of design and development of automobiles. The 600sq. meters gallery comprises of interesting exhibits in the form of interactive, kiosks, cut section models providing opportunities to peep into automobiles, 3D dioramas and exhibits explaining how automobile components like spark plug, injector, silencer, wiper etc work. Opportunity for virtual driving, testing your skills normally used in driving and activities on making of an automobile will certainly enthuse visitors.
2] Energy:Energy is an essential ingredient for life. Our bodies need it to survive. It comes from food for living and from several other renewable and non-renewable sources for use in our daily lives. Energy has different forms – heat, light, mechanical, electrical, sound, chemical, nuclear energy etc. we use energy for everything we do, from performing a simple task of walking or jumping to using it in cooking our daily food or for sending astronauts into space. The socio economic development of a nation largely depends on its energy production and requirement. Its importance will only grow. In this exposition, spread over 400 sq. meters various forms of energy, their production and practical applications, environmental issues, world energy reserves and future sources are explained through various interactive exhibits, working models and multimedia presentations with added fun components in them.
3] Fun Science –The Fun science gallery, spread over an area of 600sq.meters,is full of opportunities for visits to interact explore and experience various aspects of science in highly entertainingambience . most of the experience to visitors.
4] Climate Change–the changing climate of Earth is the cause of concern.Forthe first time in the earth history. human not nature, is the main cause of it the temporary exhibition on climate change explains the natural-volcanic eruptions Earths tilt, continental drift and manmade causes – like greenhouse effect, deforestation and desertification suggesting climate change and its consequences on land air ice ocean and inhabitants of visitors can learn about difference between weather and climate, factor affecting climate interaction between components of climates system etc.
5] 3D Science show Facility –Digital Technology offers immense avenue to present images with extraordinary variety.in this theatre polaroidbased stereo projection creates three dimensional effect. The show gives an immersive experience with the help of special Polaroid spectacles
6] Science Park – BeyondThe Four Walls of the science Centre Is the Science park Along with A small Ecological park. The Science park sprawling over 3.5 Acres area makes learning of science easy, in a non –coercive and lush green environment. it consists of several interactive exhibits that explain various principles of science while playing.
7] Dino Park – This is a prehistoric park with dinosaurs of different era presented along with the flora of Mesozoicperiod. These displays are supported with information regarding their size , weight, their body structure along with Food habits and their life span .
Other Facilities –
The Taramandal,an inflatable dome planetarium can accommodate 30 students at a time and presents astronomy concepts in a unique and interactive way.
The Science demonstration corner has provision to conduct live demonstrations and experiments to groups of visitors and students to excite them about science.
Children’scorner consists of simple experiments and puzzles and science education kits.
Overall the Pimpri Chinchwad Science Centre,Apart from providing a perfect environment for non-formal science education is sure to enthuse and excite the region and create awareness on important issues in science Technology and engineering.
